Docs Essay Toolkit Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 17, 2026

Purpose and information used

Docs Essay Toolkit helps you search your Google Docs and track live word and character counts for selected sections. With your authorization, it uses read-only Google Drive access to retrieve document metadata and document text, including documents shared with you, and build a search index on your device. While you use Google Docs, it reads document text and selection information to provide search navigation and live counters.

Storage and retention

Document content, document metadata (including document owner and sharer display names), the search index, tracked counter ranges, preferences and Google authorization tokens are stored in the extension's Chrome storage on your device. They are retained until replaced, cleared, disconnected as described below, or the extension is uninstalled. Temporary navigation information is stored for use between tabs. Document content is not uploaded to a developer-operated server.

Connections and sharing

Google sign-in and requests to Google Drive and Google Docs APIs go directly between the extension and Google over HTTPS. Authorization tokens are sent to Google to authenticate requests and revoke access when you disconnect. The extension does not use Google APIs to modify your documents. Google handles these requests under its own privacy policy.

The extension has no developer-operated backend, advertising, analytics or tracking services. The developer does not receive, sell or share your document content, search queries or authorization tokens, and does not use them to train AI models.

Your controls

You can clear the local search index in Toolkit settings. Disconnecting removes the extension's stored Google authorization token and local index and attempts to revoke that token with Google. Counter ranges and preferences remain until removed or the extension is uninstalled. You can also revoke the extension's access through your Google Account's third-party connections settings.

Limited use

Docs Essay Toolkit's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Its handling of user data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide the document search and live counting features described above.

Questions and updates

For privacy questions, use the developer contact listed on the Docs Essay Toolkit Chrome Web Store listing. Changes to this policy will be posted on this page with an updated date.
